This 4th of July, America turns 250. And while fireworks light up the sky, I’ll be thinking about the woman who showed up in this country with nothing but a willingness to work hard — and built something real. That woman is me. And this is my American Dream.
In 2012, I started A Trusting Hand with a bucket, a few supplies, and a belief that good, honest work would speak for itself. No connections. No investors. No safety net. Just the conviction that if I showed up and did the job right, people would notice. They did.
Being a Latin owner in this industry meant I had to work twice as hard to be taken half as seriously. I had to be the businesswoman, the scheduler, the cleaner, the accountant, and the brand — all at once. But I never saw that as a burden. I saw it as proof.
America at 250 is still a country being built — by hands like mine. The founders wrote about liberty and the pursuit of happiness. But it was always the workers — the people who cleaned the kitchens, the offices, the schools — who made that dream livable for everyone else. We were always part of this story. We just didn’t always get a chapter.
People used to tell me the American Dream was a white picket fence and a corner office. For me, it’s the moment a client trusts you with the keys to their home. It’s building a team of people, from different countries by the way, who depend on you and rise with you. It’s watching a side hustle become a real company, with real jobs, real pride, and real roots in the community.
That’s the dream. And it doesn’t look like any one thing — it looks like us.
This Independence Day, I’m proud of what I’ve built. I’m proud of every client who gave us a chance, every team member who showed up, and every year we’ve stayed standing. Fourteen years in. Countless homes and offices cleaned. And nowhere near done.
